Goals

1.
To develop computational biology tools for the study of arrhythmia mechanisms at all levels of the cardiac system (ion-channel, cardiac cell, multicellular tissue, whole-heart).
2.
To use these tools, in combination with experimental data, to elucidate the mechanisms and simulate the arrhythmogenic consequences of hereditary (genetic) and acquired (environmental) cardiac disease.
3.
To simulate the effects of therapeutic interventions (drugs, genetic modification, pacing) on cardiac arrhythmias in an effort to help develop better strategies for therapy.
4.
To develop and validate a noninvasive imaging modality for cardiac arrhythmias (Electrocardiographic Imaging, ECGI) and to use this modality to study the mechanisms of arrhythmias and effects of antiarrhythmic interventions in humans.

5.

To provide training in the application of quantitative approaches to the research of cardiac arrhythmias and to the design/realization of novel diagnostic tools.
6.
To provide an environment for mechanism-based diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmias
